Job Summary
We are looking for individuals who are dynamic, committed and have extensive knowledge, experience and skills to deliver SACT treatment to patients in North London with a cancer diagnosis.
We currently treat patients with solid and haemato-oncology cancers. If you are a registered nurse band 5 or band 6 who has completed your SACT training and want flexibility while supporting the team to deliver SACT treatment, we would like to invite you to apply for this post to support the team in delivering compassionate care to this group of patients.
We are a busy 16-chair unit, and we are looking for individuals to support the continual improvement of our service.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of a group of patients in a team setting, providing safe, effective, evidence-based care with opportunities to self-develop and have access to training opportunities.
You will need to demonstrate leadership qualities with the ability to communicate clearly in a dynamic setting, support the unit in maintaining a dedicated nursing team, and have the desire to work within an Oncology, Haematology day unit setting.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to both the patients receiving SACT and their relatives.
2. Responsible for safe SACT delivery in accordance with national and trust guidance on the delivery of Systematic Anticancer Therapy (SACT), cytotoxic therapy for non-cancer indications across the trust.
3. To take direct managerial responsibility for a group of patients within the clinical area and adhere to local IPC policies and procedures.
4. To act as a clinical resource within the unit and demonstrate a positive role model to junior staff members and other MDT members.
5. Deliver training and education to patients, junior staff, and students within the unit.
6. Ensure governance processes are in place when administering SACT.

2. Act as a clinical resource within the unit.

4. Manage treatment reactions in accordance with the Trust policies and procedures.
5. Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and within the principles of professional and clinical practice.
6. Communicate effectively with patients and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
7. Support the process of risk assessment of patients prior to treatment.
8. Develop knowledge of and manage potential complications and side effects of chemotherapy.
9. Provide appropriate and timely information to patients and their careers regarding their disease and treatments.
Person Specification
Education and Qualification
Essential:
* NMC registration
* Completion of a recognized SACT course
* Degree in nursing
* Mentorship or teaching qualification
Desirable:
* Post-registration oncology course
Skills and Abilities
Essential:
* Ability to manage and organize day-to-day activities in a timely manner.
* Adapt communication style as necessary.
* Ability to utilize research in clinical practice.
Experience
Essential:
* Working within an Oncology setting.
* Understanding nursing issues related to patients with cancer.
* Supporting learner nurses and demonstrable teaching skills.
