My engineering consultancy client is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services) to join the team on a permanent basis in their Nottingham offices. They deliver innovative solutions within building services design and have been established for over 50 years as specialists in electrical and mechanical engineering design.
The Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services) will play a pivotal role in their project team contributing to a wide array of construction projects throughout the UK and Europe.
Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services) Role & Responsibilities:
Preparation of designs, calculations, specifications and tender documentation for mechanical services as part of a project team
Understanding of regulations and standards and keeping up to date with future changes
Understanding of thermal modelling SAP and SBEM
Coordination with other disciplines and specialists
Undertake feasibility studies
Preparation of detailed budget costs and defined estimates if required
Understand the requirements and have proven experience of delivering regulatory obligations associated with Building Regulations Part L and BREEAM
Work with the electrical/energy/Part L engineers to derive low energy design solutions
Attend design team and project meetings on behalf of the company
Prepare specifications/equipment schedules/drawing and information to installation and fully coordinated standards (RIBA Stage 5)
Undertaking site quality and legislative inspections and preparing associated reports
Deliver exceptional technical and commercial solutions
Prepare technical reports, specifications, contract documents etc.
Liaise directly with clients and contractors
Supervise junior staff on a day-to-day basisIntermediate Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services) Essential Requirements:
Minimum 4 years' experience of mechanical building services design
Design consultant or contractor background
Significant experience of mechanical building services/HVAC design (i.e. domestic water services, ventilation, heating, cooling, renewables and sustainability) Internal drainage an advantage
Hands on knowledge and understanding of TAS, MEPWorx and AutoCAD
Experience of general mechanical building engineering services
HNC in relevant building services subject
Have a UK full driving licence
Good experience of mechanical detail design and performance design
Confident and outgoing personality, able to be client-facing and build relationshipsIntermediate Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services) Desirable Requirements:
Chartered Engineer (MCIBSE) status or be working towards this
Degree in a relevant building services subject
Experience in using Revit MED or MagiCAD
Good organisational and time management skills, able to manage projects, outputs and work within deadlines
Proven experience of working with, assisting and managing junior staff
Work in the building services design environment, some SAP and/or SBEM experience and LZC reporting would be advantageousIntermediate Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services) Package:
