We have been awarded the “Most Loved Workplace”! At Metro Bank, people come first – our culture is all about bringing the best out in our colleagues, and making sure everyone feels valued, respected, seen and included. We strongly believe in a diverse and inclusive workplace, and to find the very best person for the job we always look across a wide range of diverse communities.
What you will do:
1. The Sanctions Advisory team is a key function within our Second Line Financial Crime Policy team, assisting colleagues across the Bank in managing sanctions risk.
2. As a Sanctions Advisor you will be responsible for responding to complex sanctions escalations from colleagues across the bank, and providing timely and accurate advice based on your extensive sanctions expertise.
3. Use your extensive understanding of UN, UK, EU and US Sanctions legislation to propose timely and pragmatic recommendations to escalations to appropriately manage sanctions risk.
4. Assist with the drafting, reviewing, and updating of the Sanctions policies, minimum standards, guidance, and procedures.
5. Raise awareness of sanctions risk across the bank to ensure that sanctions risks are identified and escalated accordingly.
6. Build strong relationships across the bank and influencing how recommendations are executed.
7. Identify potential areas of enhancement across the bank, making recommendations to ensure we remain compliant with ongoing legal and regulatory requirements.
8. Supporting Financial Crime prevention initiatives across the bank, ensuring sanctions risk is appropriately managed.
And... we are a bank so risk is a part of everything we do. We love people who take responsibility, do the right thing for customers, colleagues and Metro Bank and have the ability to call out any concerns.
What you will need:
1. Previous experience in a sanctions role within a financial services firm (e.g. a screening role, a level-1 or level-2 operations or advisory role), ideally with policy experience.
2. A solid working knowledge of UN, UK, EU and US Sanctions legislation.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to draft clear, concise policy documents, minimum standards, procedures and/or guidance fully aligned to legal and regulatory requirements.
4. The ability to digest complex sanctions legislation and provide commensurate advice to colleagues.
5. Experience building and managing relationships, capable of providing constructive and positive challenge to colleagues and stakeholders, to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
6. An International Compliance Association (ICA) financial crime / sanctions qualification would be beneficial but is not essential.
7. To understand the risks associated with your job and what that means for you, Metro Bank and all our stakeholders.
Our promise to you…
1. We will make sure that you are well-rewarded by providing you with a competitive salary, discretionary annual bonus, and a wide range of benefits, including generous holiday allowance, attractive pension scheme, healthcare, life assurance, and a number of colleague discounts!
2. We will give you the training to ensure you succeed in your role and plenty of internal opportunities to progress your career (around 40% of our recruitment comes from internal promotions!).
3. We are also all about balance so most of our jobs offer the opportunity for hybrid working built around your role and home life, wherever possible (this team will be in our Holborn office at least twice per month).
Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box. We also know that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, and while we can’t accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked. So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren’t sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Please note that sometimes we may close a job earlier for applications if we are inundated with amazing candidates. Good luck!
