Post: Braille Support Assistants/Communicator

Contract Term: 1 x Permanent 1 x Maternity Cover Start Date: 01 January 2025 The Learner Support Service is looking to recruit Braille Support Assistants (BSA) to work within the sensory service. The service supports children from 0-19, working across primary and secondary settings, including Welsh Medium schools, you may be required to travel between schools within the school day. Knowledge of the Welsh Language would be desirable. The post involves working with pupils on a one-to-one basis, in small group settings and supporting in class lessons. Support may involve working with pupils undertaking GCSE and A level courses. You will be required to modify curriculum materials into large print, Braille or tactile formats. Good writing skills and proven experience of ICT is essential for this role. Knowledge and experience of working with visually impaired pupils is desirable. The successful candidate must be able to work as part of a team and be prepared to undertake appropriate specialist training in relation to visual impairment. If not already qualified, you will be required to complete a training course to learn braille. As a trainee you will be paid at grade 6. Suitably qualified candidates will be considered for grade 7.
