Job description
We are currently seeking a dynamic and motivated environmental health practitioner to join a small, multi-disciplinary enforcement team based in London. This team comprises Environmental Health Officers, Tenancy Relations Officers (TROs), Trading Standards professionals, and dedicated legal support.
This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the disruption of activities carried out by landlords and agents engaging in hazardous and/or unlicensed HMO properties within the borough.
As a key member of the team, your responsibilities will include independently managing investigations into unlicensed and/or dangerous HMO properties. This involves conducting both reactive and proactive inspections of licensed and unlicensed HMOs, serving enforcement notices, issuing civil penalties, and pursuing prosecutions. Additionally, you will be expected to consider other high-level enforcement interventions, such as rent repayment orders and banning orders, particularly for the most serious cases.
The multi-disciplinary structure of the team ensures a comprehensive approach to tenant support, providing holistic housing advice. Enforcement actions can be taken not only for Housing Act 2004 offenses but also for harassment, illegal evictions, and other related matters. This unique set-up offers an opportunity to enhance your knowledge and understanding of housing legislation, including the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, which may not be part of a standard environmental health role.
