Demonstrates accurate, competent technique when taking blood samples from the patients, completing laboratory forms clearly and accurately with patient details, and specifying test requested. Delivers a high quality venepuncture service in the community, taking into consideration the patients physical, social and emotional care needs. Monitors programmes of care ensuring that routine blood tests are carried out on a regular basis and in a timely manner. Takes appropriate action relating to any changes in a patients condition or circumstances, reporting to the appropriate person without delay. Undertakes venepuncture for patients as requested by the GPs and secondary care and other professionals. Works without direct supervision organising own workload, frequently working under pressure to accommodate appointment times. Maintains accurate records as required by the Trust policy, providing evidence of high quality record keeping skills. Within own scope of practice offers advice and information to patients and relatives when required, documenting accordingly in the patients record. Takes responsibility for maintaining own skills, competencies and knowledge in order to deliver a high quality phlebotomy service. Participates in further training when required, demonstrating a commitment to continuing professional development.
