The successful candidate will also be expected to have substantial experience in clinical cardiology. An academic profile is desirable.

This is a full-time post for a Consultant Cardiologist working for University Hospitals North Midlands, delivering services at both Royal Stoke and County Hospital Sites.

Working for our organisation
The University Hospitals North Midlands is a main tertiary centre for acute and sub-speciality cardiology. There are 19 full-time consultant cardiologists and 6 visiting consultants who deliver services in our neighbouring hospitals in Cheshire and Shrewsbury/Telford.
Referral population: Local: 600,000; Tertiary (Shropshire, North Staffordshire, South Cheshire): 1.8 million.
There is an active cardiac network, and strong links exist between the department and the district general hospitals at Stafford, Shrewsbury, Telford, and Leighton (Crewe, South Cheshire).
This is an exciting time for a dedicated and enthusiastic interventional cardiologist to join the established TAVI team at UHNM. The service is also well supported by UHNM cardiac surgeons, interventional radiologists, and cardiothoracic anaesthetists. The team includes participating consultants as well as a TAVI fellow and a dedicated specialist nurse. The service is evolving rapidly. The team has performed over 400 implants over the last year and is scheduled to undertake 500 this year. The successful applicant will contribute to delivering the current high-quality clinical service and will also have the opportunity to contribute to service development and perhaps bring new innovations to the team.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
UHNM is a tertiary centre for cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, providing primary PCI, cardiac devices, and structural cardiac intervention (including TAVI, transcatheter valve repair, left atrial appendage occlusion, PFO closure, ASD closure, and paravalvular leak closure). The department also provides advanced cardiac imaging (including cardiac CT and MRI), and our expanding electrophysiology service includes complex 3D mapping, AF ablation, (convergent is developing), and VT ablation. We have an award-winning heart failure service. We are a level 3 centre for grown-up congenital heart disease with strong links to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
