Job Description
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Health Care Support Worker in our busy Emergency department at Portsmouth Hospital University NHS Trust.
Healthcare Support Workers (HCSW) are essential providers of everyday care for our patients. The HCSW role is rewarding, requiring organisation, adaptability, resilience, and hard work. You will need great prioritisation skills, good observational skills, and the ability to empathise and overcome challenges. A hands-on approach with our patients is essential.

You will start your career with us by participating in our in-depth induction program, designed to support you in finding your feet within our organisation and quickly feel part of the team. The induction program leads to the Care Certificate.
Key Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals, you will assist the team with the provision of clinical care for a defined group of patients. Additionally, you will take all possible steps to safeguard the welfare, safety, and security of patients, visitors, and staff.
* Provide care for patients, helping to maintain their personal hygiene, which may include working with bodily fluids.
* Provide physical comfort for patients while ensuring their privacy and dignity are always maintained.
* Wash and dress patients, and assist them in safely moving around.
* Serve meals and help with feeding.
* Assist with cleaning tasks and making beds.
* Monitor patient conditions by taking measurements of temperature, pulse, respiration, and weight.
* Record information in the patient administration system and assist the team with other administrative duties.
Most importantly, you will ensure a positive patient experience by treating all patients, relatives, and colleagues in accordance with Trust values.
Qualifications
* English and Maths at Level 1 Functional Skills or GCSE equivalent.
* Demonstrated understanding of and alignment with the Trust values of Working Together for Patients, with Compassion, as One Team, Always Improving.
* Completion of Care Certificate within 3 months of appointment.
Please include a copy of your maths and English qualifications in your application.
* Competency for Observations and ECGs.
* Experience of working in an acute setting.
