The Bristol Urological Institute wishes to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Female and Functional Urology to commence 1stOctober 2025 for 24 months.
Previous “hands on” UK experience, or equivalent, and FRCS (Urol) or equivalent is essential. North Bristol NHS Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.
The post is best suited for trainees at the end of their urological training or post-CCT and wish to pursue a sub-specialty career in Female and Functional Urology. There is also plenty opportunity to participate in the ongoing research in the department.
It is desirable that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent.

Learning Objectives
The post-holder will gain a comprehensive knowledge of basic and advanced urodynamics. They will also participate in the provision of an active and nationally-recognised programme, including the Certificate in Urodynamics course and other urodynamics courses.
There will be opportunity to acquire additional skills relevant to core and functional urology, including cystoscopy. The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate in the close collaborative work undertaken by the Trust’s Female Urology and Urogynaecology services.
Teaching
The Bristol Urological Institute has an active teaching programme and Fellows and Registrars are expected to actively participate in this activity.
The post holder will be available to undertake teaching sessions for medical students and junior doctors as required. In certain circumstances you may be required to cover a colleague’s clinical duties in order that they may deliver teaching sessions
Research
½ day dedicated research session is provided for all fellows/SpRs. There are several ongoing research projects and fellows are expected to participate in these projects as well as undertaking at least one audit project during their training.

Southmead Hospital offers a comprehensive Urology service through the Bristol Urological Institute. The Institute is a tertiary referral Centre and has gained a global reputation and has become a major National and International Education Centre. The teaching program has evolved into an increasing number of national meetings, including operative courses, and an impressive database of research publications has been achieved. The BUI has a dedicated Learning and Research Facility.
The Department has 3 dedicated theatres (including a Robotic Theatre), an Outpatients Department, a Urodynamics Service as well as an on-site Lithotripsy Service serviced by the latest Stortz Modulith SLX-F2. There is a large Intensive Care Unit and Renal Transplant Unit on site which supports the work of the Department.
The BUI has two Da Vinci Robots in dedicated theatres to support its oncological work as the Network Centre for the South West. We are proud to be a Teaching Hospital. The Department is committed to providing a number of highly specialised services as well as routine procedures, and attracts a large number of inpatient and outpatient referrals from outside the District. All general urological services are offered, with specialist services in the following areas: Urological Cancer Management, Functional and Reconstructive Urology, Stone Disease Management and Renal Failure.

The post holder will participate in a 1:14 on call Rota, and will be responsible for the day to day management of ward patients.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the service activities in the department.
