We are looking for a Health Care Assistant to work within The Fernhurst Centre, as part of their team covering both their designated Outpatients and in their Day Unit.
Main responsibilities
* To play an active role in meeting the needs of patients, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), and working within the Trust policies and procedures.
* To assist with the delivery of patient care, including patient observations, testing specimens, assisting with mobilising, and supporting patients during procedures.
* To help with restocking of key supplies for the Department.
* Assist with the provision of healthcare services within the Trust.
* Assist with the effective use of manpower and resources in accordance with the Trust's policies and procedures.
Main duties of the job
* To assist patients to carry out personal care.
* To assist patients to mobilise where appropriate.
* Testing specimens and recording the results.
* Taking and recording of temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height and weight on admission to the unit, under the instruction from the RN. Recording the results appropriately and reporting any abnormalities to the RN or Nurse in Charge.
* Under the supervision of the RN, support patients undergoing clinical procedures ensuring their comfort and safety.
* To restock departmental areas as required reporting any shortages to the NIC/ward manager.
* To adhere to the policy for the control of infection.

Person Specification
* Healthcare related NVQ, BTEC or equivalent at level 3.
* Maths and English GCSE passes at D and above.
* Knowledge and experience of NHS IT systems/applications.
* Experience in assisting patients in moving and handling.
* Experience with patients receiving care for cancer-related illness.
