Senior Cost Engineer required to join an expanding organisation.
This role is critical to ensuring the financial success of the business who manufacture complex fabrication projects for defence and the O&G sectors. The Senior Cost Engineer will be responsible for leading cost estimation of products.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Estimation & Budgeting: Develop detailed cost estimates for metal fabrication projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and overhead. Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to prepare accurate estimates.
2. Risk Management: Identify potential financial risks and cost drivers. Perform cost-benefit analyses and develop mitigation strategies. Present findings to senior management and provide recommendations for optimizing project costs.
3. Vendor & Contractor Liaison: Work with suppliers and contractors to ensure pricing aligns with budgets. Negotiate subcontractor costs and change orders.
4. Process Improvement: Continuously seek opportunities to improve cost engineering processes, tools, and systems for increased efficiency and accuracy.
5. Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all cost estimates and financial plans adhere to industry standards and company policies, particularly related to safety, sustainability, and regulatory requirements.
6. Ensure cost estimates consider the financial performance of previous projects. Identify variances, and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
Qualification & Skills:
1. Time served Fabricator within medium / heavy Engineering environment.
2. Minimum 8-10 years of experience in cost engineering within the metals manufacturing industry with relevant fabrication & welding and machining experience being preferred.
3. Proven experience in cost estimation and project financial management for large-scale metal fabrication projects.
4. Strong knowledge of metals and materials used in fabrication (e.g., steel, aluminium, etc.), production processes, and industry standards.
5. Expertise in cost management software, methods and the use of estimating norms.
6. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external vendors.
7. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
8. Professional certification (e.g., CCP, AACEI) is highly desirable.
9. Good working knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and methodologies is also desirable.
