Job overview
National and Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (N&S CAMHS) are seeking to recruit enthusiastic and skilled Principal (band 8b) CAMHS Practitioner to joint-manage the Outpatient Team at the Maudsley Centre for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders (MCCAED). The post holder will manage a dynamic multidisciplinary team providing specialist assessment, formulation and treatment to young people with eating disorders, and their families.

Main duties of the job
* An opportunity to manage and lead a highly specialist, multi-disciplinary child and adolescent eating disorder service
* Supervise and manage a range of senior clinicians providing specialist clinical interventions
* Deliver and supervise individual, family and group therapy interventions for young people with eating disorders and their families.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Manage and lead the multi-disciplinary team of specialist clinicians supporting young people with eating disorders and their family members
* Deliver highly specialist individual, family, group and multi-family clinical interventions
* Provide high quality supervision and management to senior MCCAED team members
* Deliver national and international teaching, consultation and training in the models of treatment offered at MCCAED
* Oversee the operational management of the service, including rostering, leave management, performance management and recruitment
* Work closely with the senior leadership team within MCCAED
Person specification
Qualifications
* Qualifications and Professional Registration: Entry-level qualification - appropriately registered Clinical/Counselling psychologist, Systemic Family Therapist, Psychotherapist, Nurse, CBT Therapist, IPTA (A/I)
* Completed training course in clinical supervision. (A/I/R)
* Evidence of continuing professional development as required by relevant Professional body e.g. HCPC/UKCP, RCN
* PhD in psychology / family therapy / child mental health or equivalent
Experience
* Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in eating disorders. (A/I)
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in eating disorders. (A/I)
* Experience of supervising assistant and trainee psychologists having completed the relevant training. (A/I)
* Experience of providing teaching and training to psychologists or other professional groups. (A/I)
* Post-qualification experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. (A/I)
* Experience of carrying out post-doctoral research, audit or service evaluation projects. (A/I)
* Experience of proposing and implementing service development projects within own service area. (A/I)
* Record of publications in either peer reviewed, academic or professional journals/books. (A/I)

* Experience providing supervision to Band 8a and 7 psychologists, trainee psychologist and other staff members in the field of eating disorders (A/I)

* Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for child and adolescent eating disorders (A/I)
* Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for family and individual therapies for child and adolescent eating disorders (A/I)
* Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and clinical psychometrics in eating disorders. (A/I)
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities. (A/I)
* Doctoral level knowledge of psychological research methodology and complex statistical analysis. (A/I)
* Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care. (A/I)
Skills
* To deliver psychological therapy across cultural and other differences. (A/I)
* To select and administer specialist psychological assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources, on which expert opinion may differ. (A/I)
* Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data. (A/I)
* To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information.
* Skills in providing teaching and training to other professional groups (A/I)
* To plan and schedule assessment and interventions for individual clients and groups and carers, and to organise meetings such as CPAs and case reviews, and joint activities with staff of partner agencies. (A/I)
* To be expert in the skilled administration of psychometric tests, including skilled manipulation of test materials; and to be able to supervise others in administration of psychometric tests.
* To plan projects and work schedules for groups of psychologists. (A/I)
