CSS444 Scrub Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner - Trauma GUH
We are looking for highly motivated Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioners to join our expanding Trauma and Orthopaedic Scrub Team.
The theatre department provides a 7 day 24 hour service, with the requirement to work weekends, nights and to support all theatre departments within ABUHB.
Newly appointed candidates will undertake a comprehensive training programme supported by our designated theatre Practice Educator.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
* Successfully complete a locally approved orientation programme.
* Support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused.
* Assist in developing an environment which supports the value of nursing care within the theatre directorate.
* Take responsibility for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of a defined group of patients as appropriate.
* Liaise and communicate with members of the multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of patient care.
* Be aware of and demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing.
* Participate in the formal monitoring of standards.
* Act as an advocate for patients and their significant others.
* Responsible for accurate records/standards for documentation, including IT, data collection and input.
* Manage patients with complex needs and act as a resource for junior staff with these patients.
* Responsible for the care of children and relatives when in the department.
* Sign and agree accurate patient care records.
* Lead junior/new members of staff.
* Deal with aggressive staff, patients and relatives.
* Conduct personal reviews for junior members of staff.
* Communicate with external companies/suppliers on the use of their products.
* Order specialist equipment.
* Sign requisitions and communicate the delivery of specialist equipment.

Person Specification
Education/ Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RN) holding current registration with NMC or Operating Department Practitioner registered with HCPC
Skills
* Adaptable and flexible
* IT literacy
* Able to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised and evidence-based care
* Appreciation of audit and research methodologies
* Able to demonstrate a problem-solving approach
Personal Attributes
* Good organisational skills
* Excellent communication skills, including providing and receiving complex, sensitive or contentious information.
* Resilience and desire to continuously improve service provision.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the role of the Anaesthetic and Theatre practitioner in a theatre environment
* Surgical safety procedures and guidelines NATSSIPS/LOCSSIPS
Experience
* Anaesthetic experience as a qualified or student practitioner
* Previous experience working in a theatre environment
Other
* Ability to travel within a geographical area to meet the requirements of the post
