Based at Glenfield Hospital (adult ECMO) / Leicester Royal Infirmary (neonatal, infant & paediatric ECMO)
We are looking for extremely enthusiastic, flexible & well motivated intensive care nurses to join our dynamic ECMO team to provide expert patient care and continuous surveillance & management of the extracorporeal life support system during clinical operations on our adult intensive care unit & paediatric intensive care unit.
Opportunities to work solely within adult ECMO or paediatric ECMO would be considered, alongside part-time and flexible working hours.

Main duties of the job
There are two posts across the service - neonatal, infant & paediatric ECMO based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI) and adult ECMO based at Glenfield Hospital (GH). Both areas are exciting and rewarding places to work. We have just been awarded a significant investment to expand our service, so this is a fantastic time to join our team and begin or continue your journey as a specialist nurse in ECMO.
The post holder will be an expert clinical practitioner, be required to work shifts, undertake conventional & mobile ECMO transport and be an enthusiastic integral member of our well established and committed team; providing and supervising the delivery of excellent quality care. The post holder will be responsive to the needs of patients, carers and the public and be an ambassador for this nationally designated service.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working within the critical care environment at band 5/6. A period of supervision and structured training & support will be available. You will be provided with the knowledge, skills & support required to nurse these challenging patients.

Job responsibilities
* Under the guidance and supervision of the ECMO Programme Director and Co-ordinator provide continuous surveillance and management of the Extra Corporeal Life Support System during clinical operation.
* Provide specialist care and to act as a resource for other ECMO Specialists.
* Ensure the maintenance of high standards of care on a daily basis.
* Participate in the development of a skilled and effective workforce.
* Work in conjunction with Senior ECMO Specialists to support the process of change.
* Be responsible for ensuring own personal development.

Training & Qualifications Essential
* Current NMC registration with Pin and no restrictions to practice.
* Degree level education.
* Specialist training relevant to role.
* To include diploma level specialist training / short courses.
* Qualification in teaching / mentoring.
* RGN / RSCN.
* ONC / HNC in MPPN.
* ECMO Specialist Training Course.
* ENB 100 / 249 / A13 / 160 / 415 / 405 or equivalent.
Experience Essential
* 18 months experience at band 5 or above in critical care environment / specialist area or relevant area with transferable skills.
* Working experience in neonatal / paediatric & adult critical care areas.
* 6 months as a part-time ECMO Specialist.
Communication & Relationship Skills Essential
* Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Excellent communication; both written & verbal.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Effective communicator.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Confident.
Other Requirements Specific To The Role Essential
* Able to pass Occupational Health clearance.
* Professional in appearance.
* Physical capability to perform full range of nursing duties (including moving & handling of patients) as appropriate to the post.
