Reporting to – Operations Director (Architectural)
Responsible for (people) Senior Façade Designer, Façade Designer, Façade Technician, Trainee Façade technician, External Design Resource.
As a Design Team Lead you will ensure excellence, innovation and solutions in facade design on large scale construction projects, whilst mentoring and managing a team of designers.
Role Summary
* Execute our design objectives by managing, prioritising and delegating the Project Design Team workload for your managed projects.
* Attend all Design meetings with the Client Design Team.
* Tend to all correspondence of a technical nature in relation to managed project.
* Oversee the creation of the Project Packaging and phase split with Planning and review with Operations Director.
* Oversee the Design Deliverables list, IRS for managed projects and ensure drawings and reports are in line with agreed specification, relevant Building Control Regulations, British Standards, CWCT guidance and Design Office standards.
* Assign Design Packages to Internal Senior Designers and oversee progress and programme of the same
* Assign Design Packages to external design resource and ensure co-ordination of the same to meet Design standards, budget and programme
* Maintain proper file structure to ensure old design files are not in current design locations
* Drive creative excellence, efficient and innovative Façade design solutions within your team
* Ensure design drawings are in line with company standards to our clients – strive to ensure all work is delivered on time, on budget, and on brief
* Provide monthly design cost projections to Commercial team for PFACs.
* Provide detailed information and time estimations to Planning Dept to ensure effective communication of programme and deadlines.
* Provide programme updates to Planning Dept for weekly/bi-weekly droplines.
* Drive company detailing standards, ensuring correct M&T has been considered and indicated on drawings, correct layers, annotations and pen settings are being used.
* Develop training and development plans with Operations Director to include hardware and software requirements for the design office
* Provide mentoring, guidance and technical support to other members of the drawing office team.
* Create and maintain a library of standard and bespoke drawings that can be utilised for future business support.
* Develop and maintain the ViewPoint design file for your own projects and ensuring your project team deliver same.
* Assist with R&D of new products/systems when required
* Regular liaison with other departments, Procurement, Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Production and Site Teams.
* Liaise directly with the appropriate representatives to identify and agree all variations between the client specifications/drawings and the tender documents.
* Liaise with the Operations Director regularly on team progress/project updates/training requirements.
* Hold regular huddles for problem solving, brainstorming and project update meetings to ensure a one team approach to delivery of objectives and project programmes.
* Attend handover meetings where required on large and complex projects to review and discuss the project, identifying particular design requirements including clarification of the scope of works.
* Ensure that any relevant project information received from the client is appropriately transmitted within the company and in adherence to document control principles.
* Review internal and quality processes within the team to ensure a one team approach to quality.
* Regular review of the company Design Manual – ensure all documents are up to date with current Regulations and Standards
* Help support new Design initiatives in the Office – i.e. implementation of 3D software
* Participate in offline projects in the business to include innovation development, sustainability advancement and other projects that add value to the direction of the business and strategic objectives.

To scope, delegate and support workflow and design completion with team members – co-ordination internally and externally with Design resource
Production of design and fabrication drawings according to client requirements and our standards
Maintain training and development plans, build up knowledge, problem solving and organise design crit and learning huddles
Take part in client and key stakeholder meetings,
Adherence to doc control, SOP’s, timesheet recording, maintenance of contract design file
