The role
As a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Throughout the submarine program, the Commissioning Group demonstrates that the complex systems meet the design intent and are safe to operate. Our main aim is to deliver a safe submarine to the highest possible standards, well beyond what is normal in most industries.
Day-to-day, you’ll be supporting commissioning activities to ensure the reactor plant performs to the highest standards of safety.
* You will be carrying out a range of commissioning activities including inspections, trials, and testing.
* Defect identification and proposing corrective solutions where required.
* Recording of defects/deficiencies ensuring that all emergent work is correctly recognised.
* You'll maintain close working relationships with the other Commissioning Group sections.
* Ensuring that all activities conform to professional engineering standards, quality, nuclear, and submarine safety constraints.
This position involves working in confined spaces. Candidates must be able to work comfortably and perform tasks in restricted spaces.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
* Experience within the mechanical engineering industry.
* Knowledge of control of work and safe isolation of mechanical systems.
* Good planning and organisation skills.
* Self-motivated and flexible approach to problem-solving.
* There will be a requirement to work within radiological controlled areas.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Commissioning Engineer
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline and have significant demonstrable commissioning experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
