The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for developing new fluid film bearings and auxiliary components for wind turbines.
The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.
As a member of a small but growing team, they will be required to contribute to multiple areas of product development – Advanced mathematical modelling of mechanical engineering concepts, bearing design development for ease of manufacture and reduced cost, test rig development, verification and validation of design via testing and product certification.
Problems faced will tend to be difficult and often complex; projects will be managed with limited oversight from the Technical Manager.
They will assist / instruct Design Engineers and check drawings for accuracy of design intent and information.
The Senior Project Engineer will also be responsible for guiding and mentoring junior members of the engineering team, leading design reviews, preparing DFMEAs, writing engineering standards and developing new design processes & tools.
Wind turbine engineering experience while desired is not mandatory.
A strong foundation in mechanical engineering concepts and an ability to approach problems using first principles and transfer knowledge from different applications into wind bearings is most important.
What You'll Bring Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred A minimum of 10 years work experience in an engineered product environment, specialised within industrial mechanical machinery manufacturing, ideally involving high-speed rotating components, fluid film bearings and seals with high dimensional tolerances A background with experience in tribology Strong understanding and application of engineering principles and design practices Strong understanding of product failure modes and excellent, proven problem-solving skills Mathematical Skills
- Ability to parametrically model complex, non-linear mechanical engineering concepts, primarily focussed on structural and fluid dynamics.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency with MS Office and Windows operating systems is expected.
