This roleinvolves regular weekend and bank holidays working What it's like to work here You'll be reporting to the Visitor Operations and Experiences Manager, working in a team of 3 who run Leith Hill Place & Tower. Leith Hill Place is a welcoming home from home nestled in the Surrey Hills. Childhood home of one of England's greatest composers Ralph Vaughan Williams, Leith Hill Place is a place of creativity and inspiration. The wider estate offers differing landscapes, including Leith Hill Tower, a popular tourist location which marks the highest point in the South of England with expansive views across the Weald to the South coast and to London to the North. There is also the notable Rhododendron Woods planted by Caroline Wedgwood and bringing further connections to Charles Darwin, Caroline's brother, and the Victorian seed collectors. What you'll be doing As Visitor Experience Officer, your main focus will be on providing a great service for visitors. With your team, you'll be welcoming people and inspiring them to really get to know Leith Hill. This might include devising and running events and activities or creating interpretive displays and other ways of bringing the place, and its stories, to life for everyone who comes here. You'll encourage visitors to help Leith Hill Place feel like their home, by engaging with them and enhancing their visit wherever possible. You might be supervising and supporting volunteers and organising rotas. You're likely to be checking standards of presentation on site or helping to write for our web pages. It is an operational role, meaning that you need to be comfortable with working inside and outside, around the wider estate and able to move with ease on uneven ground and climbing narrow stone stairs at Leith Hill Tower. You might find yourself lifting heavy noticeboards, popping up a ladder to read meters, carrying deckchairs outside, then serving cakes The role is a mixture of meet and greet, leading the seasonal team and our team of volunteers. Who we're looking for We'd love to hear from you if you're: used to multiple deadlines and managing your own workload skilled in organisation and planning, with a good eye for detail good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people a hard-working and committed team player comfortable with IT: Microsoft Office, as well as web and social media are practical; good at looking ahead seeing and responding to needs as they arrive.
