JOB TITLE: Software Engineer
SALARY: The salary banding for this role is £68,000pa to £83,300pa plus the benefits listed below.
LOCATION: Manchester
HOURS: 35 hours, full time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Manchester site.

This role is in the Smarter Journeys Lab, an integral part of the amazing Colleague Channels Platform. The mission of this Lab is to innovate and enhance customer journeys and drive growth through cutting-edge solutions. The Lab's diverse product range includes creating exceptional digital experiences for our customers, such as Fraud Self Service, and optimising colleague efficiency through Diary Management and Workforce Planning. Your accountabilities will include:
* Leading the design and development of robust software solutions using modern web technologies, particularly JavaScript (React.js / TypeScript).
* Providing technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers; encouraging a culture of improvement and innovation.
* Working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality and innovative products, ensuring alignment with business goals.
* Developing modular, testable code and ensuring adherence to standard methodologies in source code management using Git.
* Utilising integration tools and cloud infrastructure to implement seamless solutions, ensuring smooth deployment processes.
* Championing agile development practices, including continuous integration and test automation (TDD, BDD, Playwright).
About you
You will be a seasoned and adaptable individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and is eager to learn new skills and technologies. The ideal candidate will possess:
* Extensive experience with modern web technologies, especially TypeScript / JavaScript (ideally React.js and Node.js), and Java with Spring Boot. Knowledge of AI and Algorithms would be desirable.
* Demonstrated capability to write modular, testable code and implement standard methodologies.
* Deep understanding of Git and managing change within a source code management system.
* Comprehensive knowledge of the entire application stack.
* Significant experience with integration tools and cloud infrastructure.
* Strong knowledge of agile development practices, continuous integration, and test automation (TDD, BDD, Playwright).
