Bracken Stem Cell Unit has 22 beds. The unit deals with haematology patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments and stem cell transplants for malignant and non-malignant diseases. We also deal with haematology patients receiving palliative care and symptom control for their disease.
We are seeking to recruit 4 dynamic, experienced and skilled individuals to fulfil the roles of Junior Sister/ Junior Charge Nurse on Bracken Stem Cell Unit.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical expertise and work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Supervision and direction of junior nursing staff, healthcare assistants and learners within Bracken Stem Cell Unit. Responsible for ensuring resources are used effectively within the clinical environment. Responsible for co-ordinating and delivering effective quality nursing care following a patient centred model of practice and ensuring area of work runs smoothly and efficiently.
Job responsibilities
* Providing and delivering a high standard of nursing care by initiating and co-coordinating the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of individual patients needs based on the ward philosophy. This includes all aspects of care from admission to the planning & organisation of discharge arrangements with voluntary & statutory agencies to ensure continuity of care from the hospital to the community or continuing care setting.
* Reporting and documenting all relevant nursing/patient needs, communicating changes with other health care professionals in the multi-disciplinary team with ongoing responsibility for patient care, both verbally & in writing, as they occur.
* Providing and delivering health information, education & promotion within the clinical area and advise patient, family, and others in a manner which maintains an individuals privacy & dignity.
* Engage & interact with carers/family encouraging them to be actively involved in patients care, planning as outlined in the ward philosophy.
* Supports patients, their families & carers during the delivery of bad news, caring for the terminally ill and in the event of death.
* With appropriate training & assessment, safely perform venepuncture & cannulation.
* Safely set up & maintain subcutaneous & intravenous pumps and administer all medications in accordance with Trust & NMC guidelines.
* Be competent in the administration procedures relating to all blood products including Stem Cells & Bone Marrow as per Trust policy. Within 6 months of starting post.
* Safely administer infusion & bolus cytotoxic chemotherapy, to include Key Skill 7 in chemotherapy, as per Trust policy. Within 6 months of starting post.
* Order and obtain pathology tests as required using the Trust iCM system.
* Recognise, react to & manage appropriately emergencies related to this speciality.
* Organise urgent admissions & transfers to the unit in accordance with Trust policies.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
* Demonstrable Nurse in Charge Experience
* Co-ordination on a daily basis of the clinical and educational requirements as defined by the Clinical Nurse Manager within area of responsibility
Desirable
* Demonstrable experience of managing complaints and undertaking conflict resolution
* Ability to apply research findings and support proven evidence based practice
* Demonstrable experience of research process
* Delivery of SACT
Qualifications
Essential
* NMC registered Nurse
* 2 years post registration demonstrable experience.
Desirable
* Demonstrable experience of leading clinical teams
* Teaching/Mentoring/Assessing Course and/or qualification
* A degree level-post registration qualification or equivalent in Oncology
* Delivery of SACT
