The Director of Energy Advice will lead the Severn Wye programme to tackle fuel poverty and support the most vulnerable in our society.
The Director of Energy Advice is at the heart of Severn Wye’s work to tackle fuel poverty. You will lead and grow our work supporting over ten thousand of the most vulnerable to reduce their bills and energy use, helping them to overcome the cost-of-living crisis. Your work will include leading the Energy Advice lines, Energy Advocacy and community teams who work face to face and over the phone with those who struggle to pay their bills. By offering crisis support and long-term investment we aim to lift as many people out of fuel poverty as we can. With energy prices set to stay high for some time we want to make sure more people benefit from our services, and you will lead the expansion of our work across England.
You will have a background in support services and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the most vulnerable in our society. You will have experience of managing multiple teams and ensuring they have the training and support they need to deliver the highest quality service to the most marginalised communities. You will have the drive, experience and expertise to develop new programmes to tackle the issues people face and develop our services in new geographical areas.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Title of Post: Director of Energy Advice
Salary: £47,150 - £56,140 pro rata
Contract: Permanent
Working hours: 3-4 days per week (flexible by agreement)
Reports to: CEO
The Director of Energy Advice oversees the delivery of energy advice and advocacy to households, supporting them to become more energy efficient, reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions. The role also oversees the community programme, supporting communities to tackle fuel poverty and climate change through collective action.
The role oversees the operational delivery, quality assurance and strategic development of Severn Wye services across England. This includes publicly available Energy Advice lines, Energy Advocacy programmes to tackle fuel poverty and events, training and community development programmes supporting communities to have more control over the energy they use and produce.
The role is responsible for growing the work to meet Severn Wye strategic goals, managing existing operations, budget and staff.
The role is part of the Senior Leadership team and responsible for the leadership of the organisation as a whole.
Summary of Role
* The Director of Energy Advice is responsible for the successful delivery of energy advice, advocacy and community programmes ensuring all projects are delivered on time, on target and to the highest standard.
* Provide leadership to motivate, inspire and support the people working within their teams and across the organisation to embed our culture and ways of working.
* Work with local, regional, national, and international stakeholders, to develop new energy advice programmes in line with the Severn Wye strategy.
* Promote the programmes, their impacts and share the learning from our delivery across key stakeholders from all sectors.
* Work with the Director of Finance to ensure the programme is delivered on budget.
* Ensure all staff within the department have the training, qualifications, support and clear expectations to deliver the programme of work.
* Work with the Head of Fundraising to ensure the programme of work is fully funded.
* Ensure quality delivery in line with any statutory requirements and our policies / procedures.
* Work with the CEO and Leadership team to develop and deliver organisational strategy and ensure good team working and communication.
* Work with the leadership team to develop and deliver effective policies and procedures to meet our statutory and quality standards.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
* 3 years Management/leadership experience developing and delivering strategy in the Energy or social sector offering support, advice and guidance to vulnerable and disadvantaged people and communities.
* A relevant degree or qualification or where relevant professional accreditations.
* Experience of financial management of projects exceeding £300,000.
* Experience of building and maintaining productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
* Experience of developing and submitting successful bids or tenders exceeding £100,000.
* Excellent communication skills.
Desirable:
* Enthusiasm and commitment to environmental and social welfare objectives.
* Experience of managing and leadership of a team of staff.
* Demonstrable commitment to building a constructive, equal, diverse and inclusive organisation culture.
* Experience and commitment to staff wellbeing, mentoring, training and development as well as mental and physical health and wellbeing.

* Understanding of the third sector and the policy context within which Severn Wye works.

* Management of advice lines, call centres and advocacy services for vulnerable people.
* Operations experience – HR, Health & Safety or other key policy areas such as GDPR, Safeguarding or Welsh Language.
* Qualifications or equivalent experience in management and leadership training.
* A flexible, dynamic, and creative approach.
