Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Band 7, Part-time - 30 hours per week
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist who has postgraduate training in the area of dysphagia and demonstrable experience in the assessment and management of eating and drinking difficulties as well as experience working with a range of complex and significant speech, language and communication difficulties.
An interest and some experience of AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) would support your application.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a highly specialist speech and language therapy service for children and young people with severe and complex learning difficulties in Perseid special schools, in accordance with the Service Level Agreement for Sutton Health and Care Alliance.
They will contribute to the development of the special schools speech and language therapy service for children and young people. They will plan and provide highly specialist speech and language therapy assessment, advice and treatment to a defined caseload of children and young people with severe and complex needs. They will work in partnership with the children and young people, their families and with other professions and agencies, including school staff and the wider health team, to reduce the impact of these difficulties on the children’s and young people’s social and emotional development, their learning and their ability to participate in daily life.
They will work autonomously and without direct supervision and be accountable for their own actions.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Degree/Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
2. Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
3. Registration with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
4. Postgraduate dysphagia training at intermediate level or Quest
Desirable criteria
5. Relevant post registration specialist education
6. Evidence of attendance at short courses to develop specialist skills
7. Evidence of additional training in use of high tech AAC
Experience
Essential criteria
8. Highly specialist knowledge/experience in paediatric SLT including dysphagia and high tech AAC
9. Experience of working with children and young people with eating and drinking difficulties, complex needs and those requiring an AAC approach
10. Knowledge/experience in the use of evidence based assessment and treatment approaches and practices
11. Evidence of effective multidisciplinary and multiagency work
12. Knowledge of standards of record keeping and understanding of the principals of clinical governance
13. Evidence of use of prioritisation, clinical risk assessments and outcome measures
14. Experience in training others both informally and formally

15. Experience of setting up new projects/initiatives

16. Good knowledge of AAC devices appropriate for this population
17. Highly specialist knowledge and understanding of dysphagia to enable appropriate clinical decision making and management of risk
