Role Overview: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (TA)- Secondary, you will play a crucial role in supporting students who experience difficulties in managing emotions, behaviour and social interactions. Your role will involve working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and external agencies to provide tailored support that fosters students’ confidence, academic progress and emotional well-being. Key Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH needs. Assist in the delivery of tailored interventions that promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour management. Foster a safe, supportive and engaging learning environment. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to develop personalised learning plans. Support students in accessing the curriculum, engaging in lessons and achieving academic progress. Help to implement behaviour support strategies in line with the school’s policies. Act as a mentor and positive role model, building trusting relationships with students. Liaise with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure holistic support. Requirements: Previous experience working as an SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary) or within a similar support role in an educational or care setting. A solid understanding of SEMH needs, behavioural challenges and de-escalation strategies. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with students. Resilience, patience and adaptability to work in a challenging yet rewarding environment. A relevant qualification in Education, Psychology, Youth Work, or a related field (desirable but not essential). Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one). What does GSL Education Offer?
