About the Team: This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of the Public Health team and new Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) at Lambeth Council. The post holder will work with Lambeth’s HDRC, also known as Lambeth Health Determinants Research & Evaluation Network (HEART). About the Role: Lambeth is one of 30 councils across the UK pioneering this new investment in local government. We’re creating a ‘research culture’ across the Council and with our partners, encouraging and enabling research to be undertaken and used to shape how we influence the wider determinants of health and what we do to reduce health inequalities. Lambeth HEART defines ‘research’ in the broadest sense of the word – how we find things out, share the information with other people and use it to help people live healthier lives. The post holders will be integral members of this new research network as we become a “nationally recognised centre of excellence”. This role represents a unique opportunity to join a new, pioneering team, to help grow and shape a new way of doing things and ultimately to have a big impact on outcomes for local people. The post holder will provide comprehensive, professional and proactive project support to Lambeth HDRC and its partners. They will assist in the planning, coordination and delivery of Lambeth’s new research infrastructure, enabling the HDRC and partners to meet milestones and deliverables on time and to a high standard. This post is suitable for someone who has an interest in programme delivery, research and reducing health inequalities. Lambeth Council has partnered with King’s College London and Black Thrive Lambeth to develop and deliver HEART with a race equity perspective embedded. The post holder will work closely with colleagues across these organisations and many others, meaning excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is the nation’s largest funder of health and care research and has a mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) is a new element of NIHR research infrastructure funded by its Public Health Programme that will be based in local government. The purpose is to enable local authorities to become more research-active, undertake new research and use existing evidence to inform our decision making, and undertake evaluation activities. There will be a central focus on health inequalities and actions to tackle issues faced by local disadvantaged groups and areas. Key duties include: Develop and maintain effective lines of communication within the HDRC team and across the Council and partners, and act as the first point of contact for the HDRC. Provide secretariat for meetings, including Executive Management Team meetings and Independent Advisory Board meetings, by organising, preparing agendas, collate tabled papers, issue meeting invitations, take minutes and ensure timely issue of action points. Maintain accurate, up to date and reliable programme records, monitoring information, spreadsheets, databases and IT systems to be able to produce appropriate outputs, e.g. reports. To undertake any special assignments or projects in a planned and professional manner ensuring that any work undertaken is completed within stipulated timeframes and resources with the desired outcomes. Responsible for the Lambeth HEART inboxes and coordinating responses to internal and external colleagues and stakeholders. Responsible for administration, file management, event planning and management, and contributing ideas and solutions to help work progress more effectively and efficiently. This post would suit individuals who are committed to collaborative working to improve health and wellbeing at a local level. The post holder should be keen to develop an understanding of health and impacts of wider determinants, public health and inequalities.
