HMCTS Norwich Law Courts are looking for a Court Clerk to join their team on a full-time, temporary basis. The pay rate for this role is £12.74 per hour, with holiday entitlement and a pension scheme available. The working hours are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, although please be aware that there may be instances where court sessions run over, and as a Clerk, you will need to remain in court until the adjournment.
As a Court Clerk, your main duties will include:
* Collecting and delivering files to the judiciary and clerks, ensuring all necessary papers are available.
* Sorting and delivering lists of hearings to internal and external notice boards.
* Completing standard forms and other correspondence.
* Processing and managing casework.
* Ensuring appropriate files are passed to administration teams within agreed time scales.
* Maintaining effective and timely communication with Judiciary, Counsel, List Officers, Jury Officers, Ushers, and Court users to ensure high levels of court performance.
* Assisting in running the court so that the Judge can focus on the legal aspects of cases.
* Keeping the court log and recording result sentences.
As a Court Clerk, you will play a key role in providing first-line support to the Judiciary, helping to ensure that the Judge's time is used effectively to maintain the smooth running of the court and ensure the delivery of justice. Skills required:
* Confident public speaking.
* Resilience (as some hearings may be distressing).
* The ability to work independently and effectively.
* Strong knowledge of Microsoft platforms.
* Strong IT skills (as some courts may be run virtually).
* Ability to adapt professionally and react to situations as needed.
* Exceptional organisational skills.
Please note: Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate must be comfortable speaking confidently in a live courtroom and remain professional at all times. You will often be required to read out charges that may include graphic or sensitive content. The role also requires the ability to react calmly to unexpected situations. A strong sense of professionalism when dealing with the Judiciary and maintaining a respectful, public-facing role in a serious environment is essential.
