The Facilities Directorate at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is undergoing significant changes and with the forthcoming retirement of the current postholder we are looking to recruit a Portering and Transport Manager to help drive the Facilities agenda.
The post holder will be responsible for leading the Portering and Transport functions across our Acute and Community locations and monitoring service provisions, service level agreements, operating procedures, audit assessment and budget management.
The role will require key leadership skills to implement changes across Portering including the implementation of automated job requests as part of the Trust's new EPR system as well as helping implement emerging strategies around Pathology transport systems throughout South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.
Whilst the base for the role is at the Northern General Hospital cross site working and leadership is a key requirement of the role and the post is an important part of the senior management team within the Facilities function.
Main duties of the job
* Ensure each area of responsibility operates smoothly and efficiently, including the systems and IT support available to aid provision of services.
* Ensure an adequate number of hours are available to meet the needs of the service and sufficient staffing levels are provided to cover all service requirements. Oversee the compilation of duty rotas and work schedules.
* Display an open leadership style that encourages and motivates staff to provide excellent services to the Trust.
* Manage and develop staff, supervisors, and managers to encourage maximum involvement in service delivery and optimize their performance.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Health Services, Business Administration, Project Management Qualification to Post Graduate Diploma Level or relevant)
* Short courses/demonstrable experience in IT/Microsoft Office Suite
* Short courses or experience in staff management/supervision (e.g., Recruitment & Selection, Managing Attendance, Performance Management, Conducting Appraisals, etc.)
* Masters Level Qualification in a relevant subject/field
Experience
* Significant experience in managing staff teams within an NHS environment or a comparable large organization.
* Ability to use a variety of IT systems in the production of databases, spreadsheets, and monitoring information
* Experienced in providing statistical reports/analysis on a range of key performance metrics
* Experience in effective team working across functions and at all levels in the organization, including producing development plans for self and staff.
* Experience of developing monitoring systems for multi-functions (e.g., Balanced Scorecard/benchmarking)
* Experience of managing large scale projects using established methodologies to ensure projects are delivered within both budget and time constraints
* Experience of budget management/monitoring
* The management of 24/7 services
* The setting up of training plans and the delivery of training sessions
* Knowledge of reception and/or front of house support services.
Further Training
* Evidence of keeping up to date on current leadership practice.
* Evidence of recent training in current legislative areas (e.g., Health and safety, Risk management, and Working time directive).
