We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Lead Engineer - Software Assurance to be involved in an industry-leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
What we’re looking for
A Lead Software Assurance Engineer working on ensuring the development and assurance programmes for safety-critical software are executed appropriately across Rolls-Royce SMR. This will include working alongside various departments and suppliers to establish appropriate development processes, auditing the supply chain for compliance to standards, and selecting and executing programmes of confidence-building measures in line with regulatory expectations in the UK and elsewhere.
The role involves working across the whole lifecycle of C&I systems both classified for nuclear safety applications as well as those supporting conventional safety and environmental protection functions.
You will act as an intelligent customer dependent on the task you are working on and will be responsible for delivering agreed programmes of work, which may include managing contract partners for work they will be delivering.
Key selection criteria for this role are:
1. Knowledge of standards, assessment frameworks, and relevant good practices related to the assessment of software-based systems, FPGA-based systems, or off-the-shelf programmable devices (e.g., SMART devices).
2. Experience and knowledge of relevant or international standards (for example, BS EN61513, BS EN 60880, BS EN 62566, BS EN 62138, etc.) or equivalents, including performing and overseeing audits using international standards such as IEC 61508, or developing systems to similar standards.
3. Strong background, knowledge, and experience working with different technologies used in software-based or FPGA-based systems or off-the-shelf devices.
4. Working knowledge across the lifecycle of software-based C&I systems, SMART Devices, HDL Programmed Devices (HPDs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), etc., performing safety-critical functions.
5. Knowledge and experience of specifying and/or executing various software or FPGA verification techniques, system-level tests, or other hardware-in-the-loop verification techniques.
6. The ability to provide technical oversight of the work carried out by supply chain partners.
7. Experience of engaging suppliers in supporting them through unfamiliar qualification processes.
8. Experience in information management and effective communication, including taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format.
9. Experience of working with other disciplines to ensure common understanding of complex assurance requirements and to understand the needs of the plant.
Training & Qualification Requirements
Degree level qualification or equivalent knowledge by experience in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related subject.
Pay and Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between £57,600 - £75,600 (DOE) plus:
1. Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
2. Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
3. Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
4. Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.

6. Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
7. £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
