Full Time/Part Time
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Royal Hampshire County Hospital for a Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly and supportive Acute Therapy Team. The post holder must have a passion for delivering a high standard of care to our clients, focusing initially on our acute admissions unit and elderly care wards, leading on complex discharge facilitation. You will be working alongside our established therapy and frailty teams to deliver the highest quality care to our patients and manage the day-to-day service.
We require somebody with a good understanding of both acute and community needs. You will need to be able to assess, treat and discharge patients with complex needs in a timely manner, working with our system partners to ensure their needs are continued to be met and support others to do the same.
We expect the post holder to lead teaching in their specialist area within our team, guiding other staff to improve their knowledge and skills. This will include 1:1 supervision sessions, joint working, informal and formal teaching and service development projects.
We will offer support and training opportunities, both in house and externally, as well as joint working with other services as appropriate. There will be opportunities for attending specialist courses with an expectation that the post holder will then share this learning with the wider team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Take a leading role in the delivery of the acute therapy service at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.
2. Conduct advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the specialty, maintaining records as an autonomous practitioner.
3. Lead, alongside other band 7 therapists, in supporting more junior staff to ensure patient flow is optimized while maintaining patient safety.
4. Develop, deliver and review comprehensive and complex treatment programmes, holistic needs assessments, interventions and discharge plans using appropriate frameworks in line with evidence-based practice.
5. Provide skilled clinical leadership and be responsible for service development, setting and monitoring standards of practice, implementing policy changes in the clinical area.
6. Supervise and teach Therapists, students, and MDT staff regarding therapy practice.
7. Undertake quality improvement project(s) to enhance clinical practice and represent the department within the Trust in implementation.
Please note whilst this post will be based in Winchester there is an expectation that you will be able to work on any of our sites (Basingstoke, Andover or Winchester).
Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.
Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.
We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.
The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.
Further information about the Trust and this role can be found on the Job Description and Person Specification document attached.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with any further questions; we would welcome visits to our department.
