The BCH ICT Database team has a vacancy for a full time permanent production Database Administrator. The team is primarily based in Huntingdon with the option to work at Bedford or Welwyn Garden City. At present the role is hybrid with a recommended two days a week in the Huntingdon office, although this may change in the future. During the first few weeks in the role you will be asked to come into the office for at least three days a week.
You will be part of a team that supports policing through the management of databases supporting applications and business intelligence. This is primarily a SQL Server role but some knowledge of Oracle and cloud platforms would be useful.
Previous experience of managing and maintaining SQL Server databases is required for this role. This is a production DBA role only and will not involve any development work.
You will be responsible for configuring, maintaining and supporting databases and ensuring they are up to date, secure and highly available. Through daily monitoring and management you will be expected to deliver high levels of service availability and performance, proactively resolve any issues and ensure any procedures or corrective actions are documented. You will provide support and technical advice on database related issues raised via the ICT Service Desk to seek resolution in a timely and professional manner and ensure tasks are prioritised in line with departmental requirements.
You will also provide subject matter expertise in the area of databases to support the analysis, configuration, build and delivery of a wide range of solutions both within the ICT department and the wider business environment.
You should be a good team player, organised, motivated and flexible, with an innovative approach to problem solving. You will be expected to stay up to date with technical advances.
A full driving license and access to a vehicle is essential as you will be required to be on an on-call rota to support the business out of hours. This will be for around seven days a month.
You will need to pass appropriate vetting for this post.
