We are a small, friendly, semi-rural Practice serving a registered population of around 3,500 patients looking for a qualified Dispensary Assistant to join our Dispensary team. We are a lovely surgery with a happy, close-knit team - come and join us!
If you are an experienced Dispensary Assistant looking for an exciting new role, then we'd love to hear from you. We are currently able to be completely flexible with how the hours are split through the week, but would prefer 5 hours a day over 4 days to include a Friday, but could reduce this to 3 days at approximately 7 hours a day for the right candidate.
The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, well-motivated, and able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills, together with the ability to work as a team member.
Knowledge of the EMIS clinical system would be an advantage, but full training will be given.
You will have the following skills and experience:
* You will have at least a Diploma Level 2 Dispensary or equivalent Pharmacy Services qualification with dispensary and/or pharmacy experience.
* Understanding or experience of working as a dispenser in a GP practice setting would be useful but not essential.
* The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach.
* Excellent patient-facing communication skills.
JOB TITLE: Dispensary Assistant
REPORTS TO: Senior Dispensary Assistant / Practice Manager / Practice Partners
In line with recent Government legislation, it is now a requirement that all dispensary staff hold the NVQ2 in Dispensing Services; therefore, proof of qualification will be required.
Job Role and Responsibilities:
* To process all relevant medication requests and prescriptions as authorised by GPs and receive and fulfil repeat prescription requests from patients, carers, and pharmacy teams which come into the practice via email, post, or dropped into the practice reception in a timely manner and in accordance with the principles of good practice.
* To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and, if there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
* To send prescription requests to GPs for electronic signing via EPS to other local community pharmacies.
* To work with the practice’s Clinical Pharmacist where required, for example, for quality improvement, audits, etc.
* To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
* To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are dealt with in accordance with Practice Policy.
* Work with the Senior Dispensary Assistant to operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out-of-date stock.
* To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.
* To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order.
* To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
* To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook.
* To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriate.
* Work with the Senior Dispensary Assistant to ensure all prescription forms are endorsed as appropriate, collated, and forwarded in a secure manner to the PPA for processing and reimbursement. The forms should be bundled in accordance with current PPA guidelines and include any necessary accompanying paperwork such as the FP34D and invoices as required by the PPA.
* To notify the authorising doctor of any FP10 returns/feedback from the PPA so that any appropriate remedial action may be taken.
* To work on the practices Dosette box system.
To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.
Communication:
* The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to communicate effectively with other team members, patients, and carers.
* Recognise people’s needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.
Health & Safety:
* The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety, and security as defined in the practice health & safety policy, the practice health & safety manual, the practice infection control policy, and other published procedures.
* This will include identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
* Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
* Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.
* Actively reporting health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised.
* Keeping own work areas clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holder’s role.
Contribution to the Implementation of Services:
* The post-holder will apply practice policies, standards, and guidance.
* Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards, and guidelines will affect own work.
* Participate in audit where appropriate.
Quality:
* The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice and will alert other team members to issues of quality and risk.
* Enable patients to access appropriate professions in the team.
* Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team’s performance.
* Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients’ needs.
* Effectively manage own time, workload, and resources.
* Know the practice policies which are available in the practice staff handbook.
* Record all information relating to patients, carers, etc., in an accurate and timely fashion, using manual or computer systems as appropriate.
* Take the necessary precautions when transmitting information.
