Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Brain education team, and we are looking for a band 7 Practice Educator to join us. The reason for the expansion within the education team is that Great Ormond Street Hospital is embedding a designated Paediatric Critical Care Level 1 and 2 (HDU) within neurosciences. The post holder will have the role of leading this implementation within brain directorate to train and embed the development of the core skills of the Paediatric Critical Care levels 1 and 2 within Koala HDU. The post holder will also be supporting nurses and health care support workers through a range of their skills and competencies across neuroscience. This will included: Helping mentor band 2's and 3's through the apprentice scheme, Supporting newly qualified nurses with their competencies, Working with band 5 nurses to develop into band 6's, Supporting the ward managers with recruitment and retention, Promote high standards of care through the demonstration of clinical expertise To run neurosciences study days, and inductions on the regular basis. Ensure that staff are kept up to date in changes of practice and improvements in care. Main duties of the job The Practice Educator role will cover the three neuroscience departments within the Brain directorate. Koala ward is a 24 bedded neurosciences unit. The unit includes 8 dedicated High Dependency beds and a 4 bedded telemetry suite. The unit specialises in the management of children with neurological, neurosurgical, and craniofacial conditions.Possum ward is 8 bedded unit specialise in the management of children with neurological conditions including complex epilepsy, autoimmune disease, and neurovascular malformations. Starfish ward is a nurse led day care rapid neurological and metabolic investigation unit. The staff on the ward have varying experience levels ranging from those on the apprenticeship scheme to senior nurses. These area requires specialist knowledge and enhanced skills. Thus we are looking for an individual that is experienced in neuroscience care, High Dependency care, and supporting staff at all levels.
