About Us:
Sporting Club Portsmouth is an ambitious, Hampshire FA and England Football Accredited club based between Hampshire and West Sussex. While rooted in grassroots values, we strive for high standards in player development and provide pathways for talented young footballers. Our new Under 10s Advanced Development team is formed by a number of players who previously played in the Portsmouth Youth Football League. For the 2025/26 season, we are looking to compete in the Arun & Chichester League (A division), focusing on nurturing potential within a positive and challenging environment.
The Opportunity:
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated UEFA C qualified coach to lead our Under 10s Advanced Development team for the 2025/2026 season (commencing approx. August/September 2025). This role offers a rewarding challenge for a coach passionate about working with technically good young players and guiding their development towards their full potential within our club structure.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and deliver high-quality, challenging, and engaging training sessions designed to stretch talented players, focusing on advanced technical skills and tactical understanding relevant to the U10 age group.
2. Manage the team effectively during competitive weekend matches, promoting positive play, good decision-making, and respect for opponents and officials.
3. Implement the club's coaching syllabus and player development philosophy.
4. Focus on the individual and collective development of players within the FA's 4 Corner Model, identifying and nurturing potential.
5. Foster a high-performance, yet positive and supportive, team environment where players are encouraged to take risks and learn from mistakes.
6. Communicate effectively with players, parents/guardians, and collaborate closely with the Club's Football Development Manager.
7. Ensure the welfare and safety of all players, adhering strictly to club safeguarding policies.
8. Uphold the club's code of conduct and represent the club professionally.
Required Qualifications & Attributes:
1. Minimum FA Level 2 / UEFA C Coaching Licence.
2. Valid FA DBS Check (or willingness to obtain one, supported/funded by the club).
3. Up-to-date FA Safeguarding Children Workshop certification.
4. Proven ability and enthusiasm for developing talented young footballers.
5. Good understanding of long-term player development principles and age-appropriate coaching methodologies.
6. Reliable, highly organised, and committed to the team for the entire season.
7. Excellent communication, motivation, and interpersonal skills.
8. Ambition to maintain high coaching standards.
Desirable Qualifications & Attributes:
1. Valid First Aid qualification (ideally FA Introduction to First Aid in Football - IFiF).
2. Previous experience coaching higher-ability grassroots teams or players within academy/development centre settings.
3. Possession of FA Youth Award modules.
4. Experience in performance analysis appropriate for this age group.
Commitment Required:
1. Typically one evening training session per week focused on technical and tactical development (Thursday 6-7:30 pm).
2. Weekend matches (usually Sunday mornings) during the season (approx. September 2025 - May 2026).
3. Attendance at club coaches' meetings, CPD events, and potentially occasional tournaments or festivals.
