Hours: 25.9 per week (0.7 fte)
Salary: Up to £41,313 pro rata per annum (subject to experience and qualifications). Plus generous benefits. These include:
1. 55 days annual leave per year pro rata (including bank holidays and efficiency closures)

3. Financial support towards teacher training course fees if you do not have a recognised Level 5 teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE)
About the Role
Are you passionate about hairdressing and dedicated to inspiring the next generation of stylists? York College is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Hairdressing Tutor to join our dynamic team from August 2025.
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning, with the opportunity to share your expertise in barbering, and media hair and makeup—both of which would be distinct advantages. You will:
1. Teach and assess learners across Levels 1 – 3 Hairdressing.
2. Use your industry expertise to deliver engaging, hands-on lessons that reflect current fashion trends and industry practices.
3. Support and inspire students to achieve their full potential by providing excellent guidance and feedback.
4. Contribute to the development of innovative and relevant learning materials.
5. Play an active role in shaping the curriculum to meet evolving industry standards.
About the Person
We are looking for someone who:
1. Has proven experience in hairdressing, with barbering qualifications and/or experience in the media, hair and makeup industry being highly advantageous.
2. Stays up to date with current fashion trends and techniques, bringing creativity and innovation into the classroom.
3. Is adaptable, flexible, and committed to enabling students to be the best they can be.
4. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
5. Holds teaching and assessor qualifications, or is willing to work towards these.
About the College
We are a large, regional college serving a population across York and North Yorkshire of more than one million people. Each year, we have approximately 4,000 school leavers, 1,000 apprentices, 2,000 adult students, and 400 higher-level students studying with us. Our wide range of education options span entry-level programmes through to degrees, higher technical qualifications, and accredited professional courses to courses for professional development. Our apprenticeships can be studied from level 2 to level 5 across a range of different career pathways. We are the largest provider of A-Level and vocational programmes for school leavers in the region; we offer nearly 35 A-Level subjects and over 80 vocational courses, including a wide range of T-Level pathways.

1. The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act
The College is exempt from the provisions of the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974, by virtue of the fact that postholders have access to children and young people, and to vulnerable adults.
