Newport Pagnell Medical Centre is looking to employ a prescription clerk to work within our team. The role would suit a prescription clerk who is looking to expand their career in the future towards the role of pharmacy technician.
Main duties of the job
1. Understand the electronic prescribing system within the practice.
2. Process repeat prescriptions on a daily basis, ensuring compliance with the practice protocol.
3. Handle weekly prescriptions for vulnerable patients and deal with queries related to these.
4. Ensure all prescriptions are signed by a GP, ready for collection within 48 hours from time of request and ready for daily collection by the local pharmacies.
5. Perform regular searches on drugs requiring monitoring, hence minimizing the risk of adverse effects. Ensure all current medication has relevant, current authorizations.
6. Promote cost-effective prescribing at the practice through switching drugs to the generic preparation when appropriate and encouraging the use of local primary care trust formulary medication choices.
7. Deal with prescription queries from a range of healthcare professionals.
8. Manage medication changes from all hospital letters, removing old medication, adding new or making dose changes with GPs' agreement and oversight documented in patient notes.
9. Analyze SystmOne patient repeat prescription screens; removing any repeat medication that is no longer required to ensure only current repeat medication is displayed.
10. Promote medication monitoring across the practice, ensuring patient records are updated with medication review dates.
11. Ensure medication pack sizes are correct.
12. Check prescriptions and alert GPs to any mistakes, errors, or duplications due to sporadic SystmOne prescribing issues.

Person Specification
Experience
1. Possess experience of working in a busy, public environment.
2. Be flexible, with a positive attitude.
3. Demonstrate good team working and communication skills.
4. Demonstrate an excellent standard of patient care.
5. Ideally have experience working in primary care.
6. Good attention to detail and methodical.
7. General practice experience and knowledge of SystmOne would be an advantage.
