Job Summary
Applies theories and principles to both simple and complex work including the design, product characteristics and documentation necessary to produce the product in quantity. Works with Marketing to ensure the best possible commercialization of the product. Works with Manufacturing to ensure smooth transition from prototype to production.
Responsibilities
1. Research & Evaluation: Evaluates existing products for re-design based on issues raised by customers, vendors or internal team. Assesses functions to determine whether new product would enhance existing product line or provide additional function for customers. Collects data on products through reports, testing and customer information. This function also conducts product benchmarking and new technology exploration/development.
2. Tools: Utilizes computer aided engineering, analytical, and sophisticated instrumentation technology to assist in the development of company products. Maintains professional technical competence in fields of engineering science.
3. Customer Design: Develops project timelines and product cost comparisons, selects materials, commercial parts and technical data.
4. Design: Designs new and/or re-designs existing product line. Produces designs, complex layouts, assemblies, detail parts drawings and generates associated bills of material. Ensures designs support cost effectiveness.
5. Testing: Specifies product testing. Follows up appropriately in correcting errors. Works with QA to ensure quality and ISO standards are met.
6. Quality: Follows ISO and other global quality standards/guidelines as required regarding design and production of new/revised products. Assists manufacturing and quality departments in correcting any problems encountered in the machine shop or on the assembly floor.
Basic Qualifications
7. 2 plus years’ experience with engineering of industrial products, Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ME and/or EE) or equivalent international degrees. Master’s degree a plus.
8. Excellent communication skills necessary (both written and verbal). Ability to interface with staff at all levels in other departments Procurement, Manufacturing, Shipping, Sales & Marketing, as well as with customers.
