The Newcastle Learning Disability Team is looking to recruit a permanent Band 4 Assistant Practitioner to work with the Newcastle Paediatric Learning Disability Physiotherapy Team. The post will support the Physiotherapists who work within the Local Authority Special Schools in Newcastle.
The Newcastle Learning Disability Team is a multi-disciplinary team that works with adults and children who have a learning disability and live in the community of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual with experience in working with children and young adults with a learning disability. The role includes supporting Physiotherapists in service delivery through direct clinical contact, such as assessment and delivery of therapy programmes, as well as indirect work, including housekeeping duties, departmental responsibilities, and administrative support. Experience in working with families/carers and a multi-agency team is essential.
Applicants must have experience supporting allied health professionals and be flexible to work in various environments, including schools, clinics, hydrotherapy pools, and patients' homes. A current driving licence and access to a car is desirable to meet the mobility requirements of the role.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Health and Social Care Assistant Practitioner Level 5 Apprenticeship (FdSc) or a Health and Social Care Foundation Degree (Fda) or equivalent in the specialty field.
* Maths and English Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
* Demonstrate the knowledge and skills applicable to the post as detailed in the person specification.
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience of working in an appropriate care setting.
* Able to follow instructions, recognising the boundaries of own competency.
* Experience of supervising/teaching individuals.
* Experience of 24-hour postural management.
* Experience of supporting orthotics clinics.
Skills and Competencies
* Ability to use IT systems.
* Ability to establish rapport with service users.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Flexible.
* Experience of moving and handling legislation.
* Experience of postural management and adjustment of equipment as required.
