The Financial Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the companys financial health, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all financial operations. They will be responsible for leading the month-end process, supporting the finance team with technical queries, liaising with external auditors, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The Financial Controller will work closely with the Head of Finance to provide strategic financial insights, supporting the business in making informed decisions.
This role requires a highly analytical and detail-oriented individual with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
Responsibilities
Preparation of application samples internally for stability testing, Evaluation, Perfumers & externally for customers and sales.
Making of application bases from library formulations and requesting of bases from Sales Team/customers as required for customer projects.
Print and prepare paperwork for Internal, External, and Repeat sample requests. Printing all formulas that require manufacture in the laboratory, after checking stock availability.
To prioritise the laboratory work and ensure completion of works at expected target dates.
Recording of workload/calculations/batch details on SR lab worksheets.
Packaging of samples ready for despatch by correct method, using correct applicable Dangerous Goods Transport regulations.
Arrange Courier collections of UK shipments or packing samples to give to Fragrance Sales team to take to customers.
Labelling of all applications, compounds, retains, bases and materials with correct name, code, batch number and date.
Carry out stock transfers, booking in stock, and removing stock, as required for compounds.
Carry out and record scale and equipment checks of laboratory equipment.
Maintain compound and retains library by regularly removing expired stock.
Assist the Laboratory Supervisor to keep applications stocked with the necessary consumables and applications bases.
Record stock and safety data information regarding customer specific application bases.Goals That Measure Success

Qualifications
Fully qualified ACA or ACCA.
Background in audit or practice, with a strong understanding of financial controls.
Skills & personal qualities
Minimum 3 years of experience in a finance role, with at least 2 years at Financial Controller level or equivalent.
Strong technical accounting knowledge, with experience inFRS 101 and FRS 102.
Experience managing month-end processes, financial reporting, and external audits.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide insights.
Leadership and team management experience, supporting and mentoring finance staff.
Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., Sage, Xero, SAP) and advanced Excel skills (e.g. financial modelling, pivot tables).
Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, balancing multiple priorities.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving financial issues.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, able to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
