Job Title: Senior / Principal Planning Consultant

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a forward-thinking multidisciplinary consultancy who are part of a leading group in the environmental and planning sector, seeking to appoint a Senior or Principal Planning Consultant on a full-time, permanent basis. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid working arrangement, with the option to work from their Leeds office.
The company provides a wide range of services, including ecology, arboriculture, archaeology, planning, and landscape, to a growing client base across multiple sectors. As a Senior or Principal Planning Consultant, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of projects and offer valuable planning consultancy services to a broad range of clients.
Experience Required:
1. A full, valid driving licence is essential due to the flexible nature of the role, which may involve travel to various locations.
2. A formal qualification in Town and Country Planning (Masters/Postgraduate/First Degree).
3. Full membership (or eligibility for full Chartered Membership) of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
4. Significant experience and skills in Town & Country Planning, ideally within the private sector.
5. Strong knowledge of planning regulations, policies, and development management processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide planning consultancy services to public, private, and third-sector clients, offering expert advice on a wide range of planning projects.
2. Manage planning projects from inception to completion, ensuring high standards and timely delivery. This includes leading on planning applications, site promotions, appeals, and overseeing project budgets, invoicing, and contract-specific financial details.
3. Review and comment on technical reports, ensuring alignment with planning guidelines and best practices.
4. Prepare planning applications, including drafting Planning Statements and conducting site visits with clients and colleagues.
5. Collaborate with technical consultants, statutory consultees, and Planning Officers to ensure the smooth progression of planning applications.
6. Represent the company in public speaking engagements, including planning committees and public consultation events, when required.
Requirements:
1. Proven ability to manage and deliver planning projects efficiently, ensuring high quality and within budget.
2. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with various stakeholders.
3. High attention to detail when preparing planning documents and reports.
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
