Base: Wayside House Coventry. However, as part of your role, you will be required to travel throughout Coventry and Warwickshire. This role also incorporates remote and agile working.
We "The Children's Intensive Support Team" are seeking a committed and passionate Principal Clinical Psychologist looking for an opportunity to make a difference in improving outcomes for our young people. In addition to providing a high-quality, specialist applied psychology service, the post holder will join the Children's IST Leadership Team and be responsible, in conjunction with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, for the supervision and governance of the team. Furthermore, you will support psychological practice within the team through consultation, supervision, formulation, and training.
We are a rapidly evolving service, and as such, there will be considerable opportunities to utilize research, audit, and service development skills across the service. The ability to respond quickly and confidently within crisis situations is an essential part of this role.
The team works systemically to understand and support the significant impact and challenges experienced by our service users. To do this, we work with the network around the person (e.g., Social Care, Education) and work closely with commissioners. As a Clinical Psychologist, you will have experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working, as you will need to attend regular MDTs, CETRs, and EMDTs.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be required to provide input to the service in the form of specialist assessments and psychological interventions, team formulation, consultation, training, service evaluation, and supervision of other qualified staff.
Your role will entail working directly with the service users and their families or carers, and as such, experience of working with young people who are autistic or have a learning disability and have mental health needs is essential.
The people referred to our service have highly complex needs, e.g., enduring behavior which challenges, self-injurious, aggressive, or violent behavior, or other risky presentations which could lead to harm to themselves or others. Understanding these needs, risks, and behaviors within the context of our service user's lived experiences and autism and/or learning disability is the foundation of our work. We use Team Formulations and a strengths and challenges approach to be neuroaffirmative to help us do this. You will have a key role in these processes, along with specialist assessments, interventions, and evaluations, which will involve working to understand relationships within families. Experience of the clinical application and evaluation of similar approaches would be advantageous.

Job responsibilities
Other responsibilities include providing consultation within the MDT and externally, joint working with other agencies, participation and involvement in service development, research and business meetings, and providing supervision (where appropriate) to other psychology staff or team members providing psychologically informed interventions.

Person Specification
* Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK] as approved by the HPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology.
* Knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialized psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
