Terrington Hall Prep School is seeking to employ an enthusiastic, child centred swimming coach to join the PE and Swimming Department from 24th February 2025.
This is a part time, term time only role (15-18 hours per week, preferably working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - there is some flexibility for the right candidate).
Job purpose:
To be an outstanding and inspiring teacher who shares in the school’s vision to achieve the best for every child.
To provide swimming teaching and coaching to all pupils from Nursery to Year 8.
Key Responsibility/Accountability
Swimming Teaching
To plan and deliver fun and safe swimming lessons to pupils aged 3-13. Swimming is a core part of the Terrington Hall curriculum, and every child swims at least 30 minutes per week. Swimming lessons follow the Swim England framework, to develop the children’s water competence and confidence.
To teach a timetable as directed by the Deputy Head Academic and Headmaster.
To prepare the stronger swimmers for galas and competitions.
To keep records of pupils’ progress and write brief end of term reports on pupils.
To be responsible for the upkeep of swimming pool equipment and to keep track of equipment to be replaced or purchased.
Working closely with the maintenance team regarding water quality, water temperature and general pool infrastructure.
Liaising with staff from Terrington Primary school to enable Terrington Hall to plan and deliver curriculum swimming lessons from year 1-6 and complete assessments and reporting on their behalf.
You will plan teaching to achieve progression of learning through identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught through:
• Setting tasks which challenge pupils and setting clear targets, building on prior attainment
• Differentiating teaching for SEN pupils
• Providing clear structures for lessons, always maintaining pace, motivation, and challenge
• Making effective use of assessment and ensure coverage of curriculum
• Maintaining high standards
• Ensuring pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding
Wider support
You will undertake a fair share of daytime duties (such as break duties). There are some occasions where weekends are required, such as involvement in the whole school sports day and open days.
You will also undertake to carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post as directed by the Head/Deputy Heads of Preparatory School.
Ensuring that all actions are discharged within the regulatory and legislative requirements to which the school is subject.

Person Specification
Qualifications/experience
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in a similar role supported by relevant qualifications (minimum Swim England Level 2 or similar, lifeguarding and first aid).

Safeguarding and welfare of children
The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact with, will be to adhere to and always ensure compliance with the Schools’ Child Protection Policy Statement. If while carrying out the duties of the post the role holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school, they must report any concerns to the School’s DSL or the Headteacher.
