We are looking for a Teaching Assistant with a strong background in supporting children with additional needs and managing challenging behaviour to join a Year 4 class. This role involves working closely with pupils who require tailored interventions, helping them engage with the curriculum and make meaningful progress. This role will predominantly be working one-to-one.
Your ability to respond calmly and adapt your approach to each child’s individual needs will be vital. Working in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCo, you will play an important part in promoting positive behaviour, developing strategies to support emotional regulation, and ensuring that all pupils feel supported in their learning journey.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small group support to Year 4 pupils with SEN, adapting learning activities as needed.
Implement behaviour management strategies, ensuring a positive and productive classroom environment.
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to review pupils’ progress, adjusting approaches in response to individual needs.
Assist pupils in developing social skills, emotional resilience, and confidence in the classroom.
Monitor and record progress, communicating regularly with colleagues to ensure continuity of support.
Help maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive learning environment.
Essential Experience/Attributes:
Proven experience working with children with SEN and challenging behaviour in a school or similar setting.
Good understanding of behaviour management techniques and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
Flexible, proactive approach, able to adapt methods and strategies as pupils’ needs evolve.
A DBS check registered on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
Relevant qualifications in education, SEN, or child development are desirable but not essential.
