Role Overview: The Attendance Officer will play a crucial role in monitoring and promoting student attendance to ensure compliance with school policies and government regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for tracking attendance records, identifying patterns of absence, and implementing strategies to improve attendance rates. Additionally, the Attendance Officer will work closely with students, parents, and staff to address attendance issues promptly and support students in overcoming barriers to attendance. Key Responsibilities: Maintain accurate attendance records for all students, including recording absences, late arrivals, and early departures. Monitor daily attendance reports and identify trends or patterns of absence. Communicate with parents/guardians via phone, email, or in-person meetings to address attendance concerns and provide support as needed. Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and senior leadership to implement strategies for improving attendance rates. Conduct home visits or outreach initiatives to engage families and promote the importance of regular school attendance. Work with external agencies or organizations to provide additional support services for students with chronic attendance issues. Provide regular reports on attendance data and progress towards attendance targets to senior leadership. Assist in the development and implementation of attendance policies and procedures. Organize and participate in attendance-related meetings, such as attendance panels or intervention meetings. Keep abreast of relevant legislation and guidance pertaining to school attendance, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Requirements: Previous experience working in a similar role within an educational setting is highly desirable. Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities effectively. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff. Empathy and understanding towards the diverse needs of students and families, particularly those facing challenges that may impact attendance. Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive relationships with stakeholders. Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance related to school attendance, such as the Education Act and government attendance targets. Proficiency in using computer software for data entry and analysis, such as Microsoft Excel or attendance management systems.
