We are seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant for an interim role with a local government organisation in Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with credible and proven financial experience to contribute to a dynamic team, ensuring financial compliance and supporting key decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Proactively participate in the production and delivery of statutory accounts, annual revenue and capital budgets, and associated in year monitoring, forecasting & reporting;
2. Provide a positive contribution to Directorate Management teams and deliver an effective service including advice, support, challenge and guidance to colleagues, ensuring financial controls and procedures are adhered to;
3. Maintain and work within a robust monthly financial control process to monitor service delivery, investigating and resolving all problems;
4. Operate within, and deliver outcomes in line with, the annual financial timetable;
5. Liaise with Finance colleagues and colleagues from across the business to ensure delivery of corporate and financial outcomes by the required completion dates;
6. Prepare comprehensive financial guidance notes relevant to the role and ensure operation in line with this guidance;
7. Maintain a complete and current understanding of legislation, professional guidance, advice from internal/external audit, Accounting Standards and any internal or statutory requirements specific to the role;
8. Review coding and associated financial reporting in relation to budgets, performance indicators and Statement of Accounts in compliance with relevant guidelines;
9. Ensure that the organisation is compliant and up to date with all relevant financial standards and practices.
Essential Requirements:
1. Educated to A level or equivalent relevant education/ experience;
2. Practical experience of successfully performing in a similar role;
3. CIMA / CCAB part qualified (CIPFA, ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI);
4. Good understanding and experience of financial controls;
5. Experience of analysing financial information and maintaining systems of internal financial control.
