This vacancy is a temporary post until April : Social Worker in the Throughcare Aftercare Team.
East Lothian Children’s Services has an exciting opportunity for a social worker to join the TAC Team.
The TAC Team provides a range of support to previously looked after / looked after and accommodated young people in their transition to independent living across East Lothian. We are looking to recruit a social worker who has experience in providing a social work service to this group of young people. This could include experience of working within the Child Protection Guidelines, as well as a working knowledge and experience of the relevant legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the children and families social work role.
We are currently working with an increasing number of unaccompanied asylum seeking children. This will be the principal area of work in this role. The post holder will initially focus upon assessment and support for UASC taking a lead role in development of this service. Experience in this area of work would be beneficial to the role.
The TAC Team in East Lothian provides a specialist and needs led service to young people with a range of complex issues including mental health problems, offending behaviour, isolation and limited life choices. Many struggle to build and maintain healthy relationships after many years within statutory services. The young people have often experienced significant trauma and loss and face a range of challenges including homelessness, unemployment and poverty. The successful candidate should be committed to improving outcomes for young people and be motivated to go the distance to support young people to reach positive and sustainable destinations.
A full current driving licence and use of a vehicle are essential for this post.
Applicants should have a sound value base, excellent communication and report writing skills and a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of children and families social work role and responsibilities.
