Full job description
We are currently seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing Assistant to join our procurement team. The ideal candidate will assist in the procurement process, ensuring the timely acquisition of goods and services as required for our operations. The successful applicant must be able to make decisions, meet targets and work under pressure.
Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with the purchasing team to source, request quotes and negotiate with suppliers.
2. Assist in the creation, processing and updating of purchase orders on the SAGE system.
3. Maintain and check accurate records of purchases, pricing and delivery information.
4. Monitor inventory levels and participate in inventory control activities.
5. Coordinate with logistics to ensure timely delivery of goods.
6. Utilise various systems, such as SAGE, for procurement activities.
7. Support the supply chain by liaising with vendors and internal stakeholders.
8. Assist in evaluating supplier performance and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
9. Help source new and existing products from abroad and the UK.
10. Liaising with the Operations team to ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained of core product lines.
11. Updating internal systems regarding product pricing, producing reports/spreadsheets as and when required.
12. Have the ability to build and maintain new and existing supplier relationships.
13. Answer & respond appropriately to telephone calls and emails.
14. Arrange meetings with new and existing suppliers.
15. Send and request samples from suppliers as required.
Experience:
1. Proven 2 years experience in a purchasing or procurement role.
2. Familiarity with procurement processes and systems like SAGE, or similar platforms, would be beneficial but is not essential as full training will be provided.
3. Strong negotiation skills to secure favourable terms with suppliers.
4. The applicant must have competent Excel skills.
5. Knowledge of logistics and inventory management principles.
6. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
7. Be able to work under pressure and under their own initiative.
8. Must possess excellent communication skills to interact with suppliers and internal teams efficiently.
9. Able to absorb and assess information quickly.
10. Be organised by creating spreadsheets/files.
11. Must have a clean UK driving license, with access/ownership to a car.
12. Position would suit a local candidate.
