This role is suitable for those with a valuation and/or tax compliance background.
Your role within SAV will be as an Intellectual Property Valuation Specialist within the Intangibles and Intellectual Property Team, specializing in the valuation of goodwill, software, licenses, and intellectual property such as trademarks, patents, and technical know-how.
With your transferable skills, drive, and ability to improve your specialized area of valuation knowledge, we will fully support you with a training plan to enhance your expertise as an Intellectual Property Valuation Specialist.
Most valuations you take responsibility for will involve multinational enterprises and will require consideration of international tax issues such as transfer pricing and fair value accounting.
You will liaise with customers verbally and in writing on valuation and tax technical matters, putting your knowledge and skills into practice. You will provide clear leadership on valuation aspects while using your soft skills to manage high-profile stakeholders, both internal and external, providing challenge where necessary.
Over the years, SAV has developed a level of expertise, and the breadth of work undertaken requires the Valuer to be an expert not only in valuation methodology but also to have finely honed negotiation skills.
The role of an Intellectual Property Valuation Specialist in business valuation is encompassed within the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and we will support you in becoming a member of this organization. We will also support you through your RICS Assessment of Professional Competence for the Business Valuation Faculty leading to full RICS membership.
Person specification
As an Intellectual Property Valuation Specialist, you will lead on the following:
* Taking ownership of the valuation of a number of high-value, complex, and sensitive valuations.
* Working with HMRC’s Customer Compliance Group, particularly Large Business and Mid-sized Business, and collaborating with HMRC’s Technical teams including Accountancy and Transfer Pricing where valuation issues arise.
* Developing a deep understanding of the evolving valuation principles involved in this area of work while collaborating with other Intellectual Property Valuation Specialists by sharing technical knowledge and providing coaching.
Essential Criteria
* Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
* Excellent evidence-based decision-making skills and confidence in owning and communicating those decisions.
* Substantial experience and understanding of complex valuation, taxation, or accountancy issues within a tax environment.
* Complex business value experience or Tax Compliance experience.
Qualifications (or equivalent) held
* RICS (Associate (AssocRICS) and Chartered (MRICS))
* Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA)
* Chartered Accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, CAI, ACCA)
* Successfully completed the HMRC Tax Specialist Programme or one of its predecessors (TPDP, IDP, ITS2, CPT, FT2)
* Be a qualified solicitor with relevant post-qualification experience, or
* Demonstrate significant experience in complex valuation, taxation, or accountancy within a tax environment.
