Job Description: Workshop Manager / Controller
Reporting to: Marina and Operations Director
Role Purpose
As Workshop Manager / Controller, you’ll play a key leadership role in coordinating and delivering high-quality boat maintenance and repair services. You’ll be responsible for managing the daily operation of our busy workshop and yard teams, ensuring schedules are well planned and executed, and maintaining strong communication with the service advisors, technical teams, and commercial clients. This is a hands-on, people-focused position ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys balancing strategic planning with practical problem-solving.
Key Accountabilities
1. Workshop Planning & Scheduling
o Collaborate with the Service Advisors to plan and schedule all workshop and yard work.
o Manage and continuously update job schedules to ensure efficient workflow and minimal downtime.
o Lead and manage the boat services team, including engineers, welders/fabricators, painters, and yard operatives.
o Provide daily support, motivation, and clear communication to ensure tasks are delivered to a high standard and on time.
2. Technical Support & Quality Assurance
o Offer hands-on technical guidance across a range of services including engine work, boat moves, welding, grit blasting, and spraying.
o Conduct and oversee quality checks to ensure work meets Aqueduct Marina’s high standards.
3. Warranty & Compliance
o Manage warranty claims and sign-off procedures to ensure fair and prompt resolution.
o Ensure all workshop work complies with relevant standards, policies, and customer expectations.
o Monitor workshop consumables and tools, maintaining stock levels and sourcing materials as needed.
4. Client Relationships
o Act as the point of contact for commercial clients, managing ongoing relationships and delivering exceptional service.
5. Health & Safety
o Promote a strong safety culture across the workshop and yard by leading by example.
o Ensure risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety checks are carried out and documented.
o Take a proactive role in identifying and resolving potential hazards before they become issues.

What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience in a workshop management, operations, or supervisory role – marine, automotive, agricultural, or construction backgrounds welcome.
* Strong planning and organisational skills with a hands-on, practical mindset.
* Technical knowledge in engineering, mechanical repairs, fabrication, or painting is highly desirable.
* A confident communicator who can manage a diverse team and build strong relationships with staff and clients.
* A problem solver with an eye for detail and a commitment to quality.
* Understanding of health & safety best practices.
