Grade: RA Full time, fixed term role for 12 months Birmingham City University has launched its new strategy [MG1] Strategy 2030 | Birmingham City University and now wishes to appoint a research assistant to help it build partnerships with key organisations in East Birmingham. This is an opportunity for a researcher interested in smart, sustainable and green cities to innovate knowledge creation and dissemination for meaningful impact. The Research Assistant (RA) will support the development of strategic agreements with partners in Tyseley & Hay Mills and East Birmingham. This will uniquely deliver the ambitions of BCU’s Strategy ‘2030 and Beyond’ and align with its ‘Smart, Sustainable and Green Cities’ research theme. The RA will help to build a sound foundation for long term successful collaborations and partnerships that will generate and disseminate knowledge and benefits for BCU’s research and teaching and for the regeneration of the area and its communities. The Research Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of active research and knowledge exchange in Tyseley and Hay Mills (T&HM) and East Birmingham. You will collaborate closely with academics in BCU, other educational institutions and industry, practice, and community partners to deliver BCU’s Smart, Sustainable, and Green Cities (SSG) and STEAM-driven research, knowledge creation, teaching, and dissemination. You will be educated to a first degree and higher degree in a relevant subject e.g., urban planning, environmental science, sustainability, engineering, smart cities, or related fields. Alternatively, equivalent core knowledge and expertise from leading-edge practice will be considered. Specialist knowledge is required in the discipline to support research development, engagement activities and delivery techniques with diverse stakeholders. You will have experience of research activity and research project management, with evidence of contributing to high-quality publications or outputs, especially in urban development, sustainability, and green cities. You will also have demonstrable ability in understanding and respecting the diverse characteristics of places and the needs and cultures of communities such as those within East Birmingham.
