Job title: Warship Technical Authority (WTA) Lead Safety and Environmental Engineer

Salary: £50,000+ depending on skills and experience
What you'll be doing:
* Working with the relevant WTA team and In-Service Support teams to lead Safety & Environmental input on Safety Case Reports, Hazards and Risks associated with engineering change.
* Provide Subject Matter advice on Product Safety and Environmental issues within each respective Class.
* To ensure Royal Naval (RN) Platform compliance with UK and International Legislation, DSA02 and other MOD procedures.
* Complete and oversee the delivery of Safety and Environmental assessment and management tasks, both internally and externally.
* Attend Design Reviews, Hazard Identification/Risk Assessment Workshops.
* Participate as required in developing, maintaining, and modifying Maritime Services Product Safety & Environmental governance documentation, including Policy, Framework and Processes.
* Keep up to date with Safety & Environmental legislation and advise colleagues, stakeholders (and where appropriate the business), of compliance requirements.
* Review and respond to any safety related engineering queries raised as a result of capability insertion and maintenance engineering activities.
Your skills and experiences:
* Engineering qualifications at HNC/HND/Degree level or demonstrable experience in a similarly regulated industry.
* Demonstrable experience of Safety & Environmental management within the maritime domain.
* Good understanding and experience of application of a range of common Safety & Environmental management tools, techniques, and practices.
* Ship Safety & Environmental Management Training (SSEMT) qualified or ability to gain the qualification in the short-term is desirable.

The Asset Management - Product Safety & Environment Team:
As a Maritime Services Warship Technical Authority (WTA) Lead Safety and Environmental Engineer, you will be part of the Asset Management organisation who provides engineering support to the UK Ministry of Defence Royal Naval (RN) Platforms, such as the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers, Type 23 Frigates, Mine Counter Measure Hunt Class vessels and Type 45 Destroyers. Support includes all aspects of waterfront support, including maintenance & upkeep, as well as the introduction of new capability.
As the Lead Safety and Environmental Engineer, you will be responsible to the respective WTA Class Lead Engineer (CLE) for providing Safety Engineering leadership to the relevant RN Platform WTA ensuring service consistency, operational performance, and continuous improvement. You will be part of a hub of Safety and Environmental Engineers supporting multiple RN Platforms, managing evidence to support the Platform Safety Case on behalf of the MoD Platform Authority, updating Key Hazard Certification and management of the Fire/Platform Hazard Log.
This is an exciting new opportunity and there will be opportunities of progression and growth across the Asset Management team, for which the WTA are part of supporting a range of Engineering Projects in BAE Systems Maritime Services.
