Test Engineer - ElasticSearch Experience (£200 p/d INSIDE IR35)
A leading organization is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced ElasticSearch SIEM Project Tester to join their team in West Midlands, UK. This role offers a hybrid work model, with three days per week in their West Midlands office.
About the Role:
As an ElasticSearch SIEM Project Tester, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the security, performance, and reliability of our Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution.
You will be responsible for performing both functional and non-functional testing, collaborating closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders. A strong understanding of ElasticSearch and practical experience with SIEM systems are essential.
Responsibilities:
1. Functional Testing: Perform functional testing for new and existing features, ensuring they meet business requirements and specifications.
2. Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for the SIEM solution.
3. Verify all system components (data ingestion, correlation, alerting, reporting, etc.) function as expected.
4. Identify, report, and track defects and issues, ensuring they are resolved.
5. Collaborate with developers and product managers to ensure correct implementation of requirements.
6. Test interactive features, visualizations, and data representations within dashboards.
7. Conduct regression testing to ensure new features do not negatively impact existing functionality.
8. Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, Kibana, and related technologies.
1. Non-Functional Testing: Conduct performance testing to evaluate system scalability, reliability, and response times.
2. Perform security testing to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.
3. Execute load and stress tests to determine system limits and improve robustness.
4. Validate compliance with industry standards and security best practices.
5. Monitor and analyze system performance using relevant tools and metrics.
1. Additional Responsibilities: Document test results and provide clear, actionable feedback to the development team.
2. Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and methodologies.
3. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in SIEM and ElasticSearch technologies.
4. Assist with the automation of testing processes where applicable.
1. Collaboration: Work closely with developers, DevOps, and product teams to ensure the system meets both functional and non-functional requirements.
2. Actively participate in sprint planning, grooming sessions, and retrospective meetings to provide QA input and identify potential risks.
Tools:
1. Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Travis CI, etc.
2. Proficiency with version control tools like Git.
3. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
4. Proficiency in testing tools and frameworks such as TestNG, JMeter, Selenium, RestAssured, or others.
5. Knowledge of using Postman for API testing.
6. Understanding of Helm for managing Kubernetes deployments and configurations.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in testing SIEM solutions, particularly those based on Elasticsearch.
3. Strong understanding of functional and non-functional testing methodologies.
4. Experience with security testing tools and techniques.
5. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
6. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Preferred Skills:
1. Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for test automation.
2. Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., CI/CD, Jenkins, Docker).
3. Certification in relevant areas such as CISSP, CEH, or ISTQB.
